Consumption of alcohol and tobacco are two most dreaded addictions causing a major global health impact. In most cases, there exists an association between alcohol and tobacco use. According to available research data, around 80-95 percent consumers of alcohol are also the biggest consumers of tobacco. Combination of both the habits causes a far greater damage to the health of an individual than single form of addiction.
Why do people need to smoke while consuming alcohol? Quite a number of postulates and assumptions exist on this issue. Some consider that smoking increases the absorption, distribution and elimination of alcohol from the body. Some others have the opinion that smoking and alcohol complement each other in increasing the desired effects and decrease the toxic and unpleasant reactions. However, none of these postulates have been convincingly established.
